It was the journeys of astronauts to the Moon that kindled a passion for astronomy in André, something that has continued to inspire him throughout his studies and career. He finished university studies in physics and astrophysics at Université de Montréal before teaching physics and astronomy at Collège de Rosemont and at Collège André-Grasset. As part of a distance learning program he was also an instructor at Université de Montréal from 1992 to 2002.

André developed an expertise on meteorites after one of them fell in Saint-Robert in 1994. He has also done two internships at the Muséum d’histoire naturelle in Paris focusing on maintaining a meteorite collection. His curiosity and his love for science led him to an interest in ancient civilizations, and ancient Egypt in particular. In 2005 he even accompanied a team of archeologists on excavations in Yemen to study the Queen of Sheba’s temple.

André joined the Montréal Planetarium team as an interpreter in 1992. From 1994 to 2023, he was astronomical information officer.

André Grandchamps was an astronomer at the Planétarium from 1995 to 2023.
