Michel Labrecque

Michel Labrecque has been curator and head of the research and scientific development division of the Jardin botanique de Montréal since 1997. He’s also guest researcher in the Biological Sciences department at the Université de Montréal and researcher at the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale. In addition to his administrative duties, he’s highly active in research. He’s regarded as a pioneer in the field of bioenergy in Canada (making energy through the use of plants) and is interested in phytotechnologies: phytoremediation, live sound barriers, and so on. Michel has directed or co-directed some 15 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. As author or co-author he’s published over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 75 lectures nationally and internationally. He chaired the fourth Colloque international sur l’arbre (2000) as well as the International Workshop on Environmental Applications of Willows and Poplars in 2007 (IPC FAO). In 2007 he founded the Société québécoise de phytotechnologie (SQP) and currently sits on its board as a director. A lot of hats for just one person!
