Early goldenrod

All parts of this plant are smooth. Its stiff stem grows 50 to 120 cm tall. The veins on the leaves are arranged like the barbs on a feather. The leaves at the base of the stem are lance-shaped and toothed, while those higher up are smaller and smooth-edged. The flowers are grouped in drooping inflorescences on one side of the stalk.
