Hay-scented-fern

Hay-scented fern prefers dry, well-drained, semi-shaded sites. It is found mainly in clearings and old cut or burnt land, but also in abandoned pastures and fields. It is occasionally found on the edges of bogs and along roadsides. Unlike most other ferns, it is able to tolerate sunny sites. It is frequently found on sandy soil. This species is unique to eastern North America and typical of the Appalachian region.
