Interrupted fern, Clayton's fern

This species may reproduce vegetatively by the rhizome, which produces creeping stems spreading out in opposite directions. The fronds appear only at the end of the stems and eventually form a ring, known as a 'fairy ring'. When the plant reproduces sexually, the spores form a prothallus, which takes about 15 weeks to produce a young frond.
