Larger blue-flag

Iris is toxic if eaten in large doses. The rhizome has an unpleasant odour and flavour. It is harvested in fall, nonetheless, and dried and ground to be used in making toothpowder. Made into an infusion, it is purgative and diuretic. It is emetic in large doses, however. Larger blue flag is readily available from perennial growers. Larger blue flag was named the floral emblem of Québec in the fall of 1999.
