New York fern, Tapering fern

New York fern grows in woods, mostly in sugar maple-linden stands, sugar maple-yellow birch stands and beech groves. This fern is found only in eastern North America, from Louisiana to Newfoundland, with its territory corresponding to that of temperate, deciduous and mixed forests. Part of its distribution area borders on the coniferous forest as well. In Québec, it is found as far north as Lac Saint-Jean.
