Pink lady's slipper

This rhizomatous plant grows 30 to 45 cm tall. It has 2 large, 15 to 20 cm long leaves. They are stalkless and grow at the base of the plant. It has a spectacular pink and sometimes white flower. It is composed of 3 sepals, which form the outer envelope of the flower, and 3 petals, the central one of which, the lip, is swollen and pouch-like. The flower is 8 to 10 cm in diameter. The large fruit is spindle-shaped.
