Scotch lovage, sea lovage

This plant, with its pronounced taste, was popular fare in the islands in Scotland at one time. Sailors liked to eat it. The Inuit in Alaska mixed it with fish and ate it. Its seeds were used by herbalists to relieve intestinal gas and to improve the flavour of some remedies. Its root was chewed like chewing tobacco. Its leaves and seeds can be used instead of celery to flavour various dishes. Its grows well in moist, semi-shaded soil, and may reach an impressive size.
