Sharp-lobed liverleaf

This perennial species is one of the first to flower in spring. Its flower buds are formed in fall and spend winter under the snow, protected by downy hairs. The flowers are ready to open as soon as spring arrives. The leaves also start forming in fall, and appear shortly after the plant flowers. Other leaves appear later in the season. The seeds fall to the ground when ripe and are covered and protected by the other flowers.
