The Harlequin blue flag, a floral emblem
It wasn't until 1999 that a species native to Quebec, the Harlequin blue flag (Iris versicolor), a plant from our wetlands, officially became the floral emblem of Quebec.
Bulbs in abundance
Each year, more and more bulb species dot the flower beds of the Flowery Brook Garden. Species of tulips, fritillaries, foxtail lilies, squills, grape hyacinths, crocuses, autumn crocuses, and alliums can be found there.
Early and late blooming irises
One of the first plants in the Garden to bloom is the Iris reticulata. The bloom occurs when there is still snow! Iris flowers then adorn the Garden throughout the spring and summer. And some of our iris cultivars even have a second bloom... in the fall!
A bird near the Brook
Created in 1961 by Paul Borduas (son of Paul-Émile Borduas), an untitled sculpture stands near the large pond. Previously located in the Shrub Garden, it was acquired by the Jardin botanique in 1962.
This steel bird was created based on a drawing by Vittorio, the Quebec poster artist behind the characters of the Just for Laughs Festival.
