Origin and description

The sugar maple is a large tree with a round crown that grows to 30 metres. Its bright green leaves turn yellow-orange in fall.

Growing conditions

This species prefers a moist, well-drained site and adapts fairly well to urban conditions.

Easy to grow?

The sugar maple is popular primarily for its shape and fall colouring. It is often used in mass planting in large spaces or as a specimen tree. It is also used as a street tree, but is far better suited to secondary streets than major thoroughfares.
