Origin and description

White mulberry is a small tree with a rounded crown that grows to 10 metres. Its glossy green polymorphous foliage turns yellow in fall. Spike-like flowers appear in spring. Pinkish white fruit in summer attracts birds.

Growing conditions

This species is known for its capacity to adapt to poor, dry soils, pollution and salt spray. It does not tolerate wet sites well, however.

Easy to grow?

Fast growing, but short-lived. Very frost sensitive if planted in poorly drained soil.

Use

Used in mass plantings, as a single specimen or to form high hedges.
