Description

Head lice are tiny wingless insects with a flattened body. They have three short pairs of legs equipped with claws that grasp the host’s hair.

Life cycle

Females glue the eggs (nits) to the hair shaft. Newly hatched larvae resemble adults except that they are smaller. They will moult three times before reaching the adult stage.

Geographic distribution

These human parasites are cosmopolitan pests and can be found wherever humans live.
