The Slide Library, part of the Library of the Jardin botanique de Montréal, contains photographs and slides that constitute the visual memory of the Jardin botanique. Its 135,000 slides, covering the period since 1954, represent a treasure trove of images relating to botany, horticulture, arboriculture and landscaping. The collection also includes thousands of negatives, photographs and posters relating to the history of the Jardin botanique, its activities and collections of live plants, as well as its founder, Brother Marie-Victorin.
In addition, the Slide Library has the parallel photographic collections of Henry Teuscher (1930-1960), Jacques Rousseau (1940-1950) and Ernest Henry Wilson (1907-1922). These collections are remarkable not only for the wealth of botanical information they contain, but also because of the ethnological details they offer on orchids, the Canadian North and Asia.
The Slide Library is open by appointment only for professionals in the areas of horticulture, specialized education, publishing and the media. Materials may be borrowed only under certain conditions.
