The awards keep rolling in for the Insectarium de Montréal. At the Société des musées du Québec (SMQ) awards ceremony on October 5, the Insectarium’s Metamorphosis project earned the Prix Excellence. This innovative and distinctive museum project aims to transform visitors’ relationship with insects—those widely misunderstood creatures absolutely indispensable to the planet’s equilibrium—and to develop a positive attitude towards them.
The Insectarium is raising industry standards through its innovative museology, the unique multi-sensory experience it offers visitors focused on emotion and wonder, and its empathetic educational approach that breaks with traditional approaches.
More well-deserved honours
Last April, the Insectarium was awarded the Grand prix d'excellence en architecture by the Ordre des architectes du Québec, in a two-way tie with the Centre culturel Desjardins (Joliette).
The new museum project also won an ESTim award from the Chambre de commerce de l’est de Montréal, and was proud to be among the 15 finalists for the Prix Distinction 2023 presented by Tourisme Montréal earlier this year.
Last July, the Canada Green Building Council awarded LEED Gold certification to the new Insectarium de Montréal, making it the first building with a curtain-wall greenhouse to achieve LEED Gold certification in Québec.
The new Insectarium innovates on all fronts—from museology to architecture.
