Perennial native to Québec. The stem, sprouting from a rhizome, bears a single large leaf, thick, kidney-shaped, with sinuous lobes. The solitary white flower is ephemeral, but offers a magnificent spectacle in early spring. The foliage disappears over the summer. The name of the plant refers to the blood-red latex it encloses.
This species is considered vulnerable in Québec.
