The Insectarium's Great Vivarium

Insects from all over the world

Showcasing exotic insects requires a number of precautions to ensure that they do not end up outside, in an ecosystem that is not their own, both for their own well-being and for the protection of local species.

The Montréal Insectarium holds federal certification at level PPC-E from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which allows it to showcase low-risk exotic invertebrates in biocontainment areas.

Your responsibility as a visitor

You can contribute to the well-being of species from near and far by following these guidelines while in the museum:

  • Never pick up or touch an insect unless invited to do so by a guide during a specific activity.
  • If a butterfly lands on you, let it fly away on its own or ask a staff member to remove it.
  • Before leaving the area, make sure there are no butterflies on you or your personal belongings (clothing, bag, stroller, etc.).
