You often hear about the dynamism and cultural wealth of Montréal, but did you know that our city is also located in a region with a great wealth of biological diversity? With a view to preserving this biodiversity and the many ecological services that enhance the quality of life of the city’s inhabitants, the Montréal Space for Life launches My Space for Life Garden, a program that seeks to encourage the creation of greenspaces dedicated to biodiversity at home.
A partnership between the Montréal Space for Life and the citizens of Montréal

The program’s aim is simple: citizens are asked to take concrete action for nature by adding plants to their balcony or terrace or by creating a garden. Think you’ve seen it all before? Think again! The My Space for Life Garden program has developed three theme gardens in cooperation with specialists from the Botanical Garden, the Biodôme and the Insectarium.
You can therefore create three types of gardens:
- a biodiversity garden, which encourages the planting of species indigenous to Québec;
- a bird garden to provide birds with a source of food and shelter in all seasons;
- a monarch oasis, which attracts these fabulous migrating butterflies with milkweed and nectar-producing plants.
For each theme garden, an information sheet developed by our experts will guide you in designing and creating your space.

Another special feature of the program: you can get your garden certified for free! To do so, register on our website: espacepourlavie.ca/en/my-garden.
You can also buy a sign to put up at home to tell everyone about the action you have taken for biodiversity.
