Exploring arthropods and their representation in the human mind
André-Philippe Drapeau Picard has been fascinated by insects and other arthropods since his master’s work, co-supervised by Maxim Larrivée, which focused on spiders and diving beetles in peatlands. His experience in communicating with the public and the media has led him to explore the representations of arthropods and to deconstruct the myths and fears associated with them.
The entomologist actively contributes to participatory science platforms such as iNaturalist and eButterfly, which help identify all kinds of butterflies, spiders, and insects. Every year, he shares hundreds of observations on these social networks.
André-Philippe Drapeau Picard is also an avid photographer. Many of his photos can be found in the Insects and other arthropods section of the Espace pour la vie website.
