American basswood

This tree can grow up to 35 m tall tree has a trunk that can grow up to 100 cm in diameter.

Its large dark green leaves have paler undersides and measure 5 to 15 cm across. They are alternate, simple, heart-shaped, pointed, asymmetrical and sharply toothed.

The bark is smooth when young, becoming scaly and dark greyish-brown, with long, narrow, almost parallel ridges, with age.
