Arrowleaf Philodendron

This plant has a stem 4 to 6 cm in diameter, divided into nodes every 15 cm. Thick, long, brownish roots grow from each node, used by the plant to cling to a support. Its sagittate leaves (in the shape of an arrowhead) are oval and triangular, rather elongated and heart-shaped at the base. They have a leathery texture and upturned margins. They are 35 to 65 cm long and usually less than 40 cm wide. Each leaf is borne on a long stalk (30 to 60 cm) surrounded by a sheath at the base. The flowers are arranged in spikes (only a few per plant) surrounded by a special leaf called a spathe. Its fruit is about 7 mm long and contains several seeds.
