Cobweb spiders

There are about fifty species of cobweb spiders in Quebec.

Some cobweb spiders make noises – the frequency depends on the species.

This family includes black widows, small poisonous spiders whose bite can be painful and even fatal. Black widows owe their name to the fact that the female often kills the male after mating. They are sometimes found in the wild in southern Canada, but they can also arrive along with grapes imported from California in the fall. So it is important to always wash grapes in the sink. If you see a spider appear, it is best to kill it rather than try to catch it.
