Visitors to the Botanical Garden

Families and people with disabilities or specific needs have access to a range of services during their visit to the Jardin botanique. Explore the services available, from wheelchair loans to changing rooms and lockers, along with other solutions designed to make your visit easier.

Accessibility and adapted services

Admission to the Jardin botanique is free for the companion of a visitor with a disability.

The greenhouses, pavilions, washroom facilities, gift shop, restaurant, and the Frédéric-Back Tree Pavilion are fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. All of these spaces are equipped with automatic doors.

The outdoor paths are generally flat, with few slopes. However, some gardens are only partially accessible. To identify the easiest routes and the areas to avoid, please refer to the accessibility map for visitors with reduced mobility (In French only), developed in partnership with Kéroul.

A free electric mini-train, offered primarily to visitors with reduced mobility, makes five stops to help you get around the Jardin botanique. The departure point is in front of the Biodiversity Centre.

IMPORTANT

Some areas of the outdoor grounds are not accessible to visitors with mobility limitations due to the surface materials or steep inclines. These sections are clearly marked with appropriate signage.

By 2031, the Jardin botanique plans to improve pathways and pedestrian connections, and to add ramps and smooth surfaces in several outdoor gardens. Universally accessible family-friendly areas are also planned.

Pre-visit planning guide and sensory kit

A pre-visit planning guide for the Jardin botanique, along with a sensory kit, was developed in collaboration with Giant Steps for autistic visitors. The guide includes a communication board, a sensory map, and photos to help make your visit easier.

A sensory kit for autistic visitors is available at the Jardin botanique’s reception desk. It includes five calming items designed to enhance the visit experience. The kit may also be helpful for anyone experiencing sensory overload.

Wheelchair loans

Visitors may request a wheelchair at the reception desk. As the supply is limited, we cannot guarantee that one will be on hand.

A piece of identification is required for the loan.

Parking and paratransit

  • The outdoor parking area includes six spaces reserved for people with disabilities, located near the Jardin botanique’s main entrance.
  • A paratransit stop is also located close to the main entrance, and the area is equipped with a shelter for use during bad weather.

The Jardin botanique de Montréal has been certified as partially accessible by Kéroul, which assesses the accessibility of tourist and cultural sites across Québec.

Dining areas and gift shops

You can choose from three dining areas with outdoor terraces where you can enjoy a meal or a snack at the Jardin botanique. Its restaurant, café, and snack bar offer delicious vegetarian options in a pleasant setting.

In summer, the Jardin’s ice cream counter is also sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

At the Jardin botanique’s shop, you’ll discover a wide range of gardening gear, books on botany, horticulture, and gardening, as well as decorative and eco-friendly items. The shop is in the Jardin’s Welcome Complex, near Sherbrooke Street.

It also features a lovely selection of plants in a small greenhouse. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just getting started, you’ll find plenty of products to fuel your passion.

During your visit to the Chinese Garden at the Jardin botanique de Montréal, be sure to stop by the shop, filled with amazing finds. The shop is in the Stone Boat, near the Entrance Courtyard.
