Origin and description

Perennial native to Québec. With its long blue-violet flowering, it produces a very handsome effect when used extensively in a flowerbed with fresh soil or bordering a pond.

Height: 60 to 150 cm
Width: 45 to 60 cm
Blooms: blue violet, July to September
Attractions for wildlife: attracts butterflies, pollinators and birds

Growing conditions

Exposure: sun, semi-shade
Soil type: fresh to moist, rather rich
Observation: reseeds easily

Sowing

Sow blue vervain seeds in spring after giving them at least 30 days of cold stratification, a cold moist treatment in the refrigerator.

They can also be sown directly outdoors in fall.

Germination time: 10 to 30 days

Sowing depth: On the surface, as the seeds need light to germinate.
