Jack pine

Jack pine is used in the construction and pulp and paper industries, and for making railway ties, poles, pilings and plywood. It is frequently planted for forestry purposes because its wide-spreading root systems allow it to grow on poor soils. Pioneers once thought that these trees poisoned their land and were surprised to find that even after they tried to destroy the trees by burning them, they grew back even more abundantly.
