Nelumbo nucifera 'Alba Plena'

All parts of the sacred lotus are edible:

  • The leaves are used for serving or wrapping around other food before it is cooked.
  • The seeds can be ground to obtain an almond-flavored flour.
  • The stalks are often sliced and added to salads.
  • The rhizome is eaten raw or cooked.

The plant is also used for medicinal purposes.

The seed head, fresh or dried, is often used in flower arrangements.
